Safe School Plans (SSP) 
Mandated since 2008, all New Mexico Public and Charter 
Schools must maintain emergency operations plans under the 
School Wellness Policy (6.12.6 NMAC).
Triennial State Review
Formal NMPED Resubmission
Every 3 years, each district school submits a 
comprehensive SSP for full state review.
Status: All district schools completed last in 2023.
Annual Internal Cycle
Continuous Campus Updates
Schools conduct mandatory yearly reviews to update 
critical campus maps, staff roles, emergency contact 
lists, and hazard assessments between state 
submissions.
