It is the intent of the Los Alamos Public Schools to fully comply with all requirements of Title VI of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and to that end, the School Board has adopted as policy these Indian Policies and Procedures (IPP’S). The IPP’S by intent and by School Board action supersede all previous School Board action and are intended to bind the School Board, administration, and staff of the District. Per 34 CFR 222.91, Los Alamos Public Schools attests that it has established Indian Policies and Procedures as required in section 7003 of the Act in consultation with and based on information from tribal officials and parents of attending children residing on Indian lands, excluding those students from a tribe that has provided a written waiver to these policies and procedures. Los Alamos Public Schools also attests that tribal leaders and parents of attending American Indian children will be provided a written response to any comments, concerns, and recommendations received through the Indian Policies and Procedures consultation process. Los Alamos Public Schools is not required to comply with 34 CFR 222.94 with respect to students from a tribe that has provided a voluntary written statement from an appropriate tribal official or tribal governing body stating the tribe is satisfied with the District's provision of educational services to the tribe's students and that the tribe was provided a copy of the regulations in § 222.91 and § 222.94 and understands that these requirements are being waived. [34 CFR 222.91] SECTION I POLICY: The District will disseminate relevant applications, evaluations, program plans and information related to the LEA's education program and activities with sufficient advance notice to allow tribes and parents of Indian children the opportunity to review and make recommendations. [34CFR222.94(b)(1)] PROCEDURE: The District Administrator/designee will, as soon as reasonably possible after such information becomes available, but not later than one week in advance of any meeting, mail to American Indian parents and tribal officials a copy of the following documents: ● The American Indian Education Policies and Procedures (IPP's) ● The current Title I, Title II, and Title VI applications; ● Evaluations of educational programs; and ● Plans for education programs the District intends to initiate or eliminate. In addition, information regarding these materials will be included in the District's monthly newsletter, if appropriate. Parents of attending American Indian children, tribal officials, and the public will be given notice of any and all meetings related to equal participation or the content of the educational program by including information about meeting times and locations in the District newsletters. The Los Alamos Public Schools will disseminate information and seek timely input regarding the following programs (including, but not limited to): Title I, Part A, Title II, Part A, and Title VI Indian Education programs. The completed applications, evaluations, and program planning will be made available to parents of attending American Indian children, tribal officials, and the American Indian Education Committee one week in advance of public hearings to afford all interested parties the opportunity to review the Los Alamos Public Schools
